Be aware of security issues in Noosa Waters

There have been several recent cases of groups of juveniles trespassing, entering homes and stealing cars in Noosa Waters.

Police have attended but the offenders often come from the Brisbane area in stolen cars and return in newly stolen cars which are then used for other offences. They are sophisticated and can neutralise any locating and disabling devices fitted to new cars. These offenders are also brazen and last week were caught on security cameras gaining entry to a home in Masthead Quay, removing their shoes to minimise sound, opening doors to allow easy escape, prowling the house then using the car keys to depart with two vehicles when confronted.

There is anecdotal evidence that houses are targeted after being "cased" by drone or by drive-by and security details are published on social media.

Police strongly advise that residents must take basic precautions:

  • Secure your garage and internal doors with effective locks

  • Secure all access to the house at all times

  • Secure your car keys and lock the car even when garaged - 7 out of 10 vehicles are stolen with their own keys.

Police advise strongly not to confront the intruders as personal safety is more important than possessions.
