As mentioned in our last update, we were waiting on the findings from the stage 1 inspection of the lock. We received the following from Council:
"The only real finding from the shut down and survey stage of the lock and weir identified the following:
Inspection of the seal plates by Kellybourke in conjunction with the designers, FSA Consulting Engineers, has determined that replacement of the wall and floor seal plates is essential for the operation and long-term durability of the new lock gates, and in particular the water-tight seal. Replacement works will be designed by FSA Consulting Engineers, but are anticipated to involve the following items of work:
• Removal and disposal of the existing stainless steel seal plates and fixings
• Removal of the existing grout pads behind the wall seal plates and under the floor seal plates
• Supply and installation of new stainless steel sealing plates (floor and wall) to match existing profiles and levels
• Supply and installation of epoxy grout backing to seal plates"
These works will be funded by the project's inbuilt contingency, as they are an identified risk and most cost effective to do while the major works are completed.
