New rules for riders

At the recent NWRA AGM, concerns were raised over the proliferation of e-bikes and e-scooters in and around Noosa Waters, and the lack of adherence to road rules, risk to paedestrians, lack of helmets, and doubling - all of this often by very young and inexperienced riders.

The overwhelming sentiment was that, as a community, we do not want to see this behaviour end in tradegy for the riders, motorists or innocent bystanders.

For your information, Government policies are finally addressing the issue and giving Police the power to fine offenders. Here is the link to the Queensland Government site.

I certainly agree with the issues raised regarding the use of e-bikes in our area. I have experienced two incidents this week. The first was a young person riding a fat wheel eBike up Saltwater at over 50kph. The second was a similar e-bike rider riding at speed up Gibson Road in the wrong side of the road at around mid day Friday seemingly heading from the shopping centre towards Macdonalds. I would like to know if the Police are watching for this sort of activity and are going to take some action before there is a serious incident
